History¶
When he was only an infant Herdan’s family and small village, Elrisleon, were destroyed by a demon attack summoned through a portal opened by the local village priest. The demons kidnapped or killed every single villager they found and leveled the town to rubble. Only a few managed to run away or find a safe hiding place in the early moments of the attack.
Herdan was only an infant when the attack happened, and his older sister was able to hide with him, evading detection. Their parents, siblings, aunts/uncles, and cousins were not so fortunate. But through continued luck and good fortune, Herdan’s sister was able to get them safely to Hinvale where they could be fostered by their mother’s sister and husband.
During Herdan’s adolescence, he was befriended by an old paladin, Ken Maresk, who became his personal mentor. Ken taught Herdan the ways of the Knights of Enysia demonstrated their ability to crush undead and fiends because of Enysia’s blessings. Determined to wield such power, Herdan spent every day training and studying under his mentor’s guidance.
Herdan’s training and studying eventually paid off when he was accepted as an initiate in the Knights of Enysia. After catching the attention of his superiors during his initial training with the Knights, he now roams Veldus providing his service to any person or village in need while seeking more information about the attack that stole his family away from him.
Motivation¶
Study undead and fiendish cults, extinguish them, and destroy the priest who killed his family. Rising within the ranks of the Knights of Enysia is a secondary motivation, viewed as a means to an end rather than the end.
